Homeward for Diwali

To begin with there was a problem with the train tickets. Even while we bought the tickets it was waitlisted. Hubby dear was supposed to move heaven to earth.... by getting an EQ released for the tickets, which he did. The process did not yield much result though as only one of the two tickets got confirmed.

A quick meeting was called to decide what to do at the nth hour (offices families all of them run on the same policy JUST ON TIME) and the decision was arrived between the CEO & CFO that we would take the car. It was already 9.15 in the night. It was the first time we would be driving on that route and we had no clue how to go about. A few phone calls later things began falling in place.

So vvvrooommmm we took off homeward ahoy!!!

It was a real beautiful drive. After 4 years or more of owning a car, for the first time it was hubby dear and I, alone on a long drive. Every other time we always had extended family for company.

The roads were smooth as silk and the traffic absolutely shipshape! The drive to Krishnagiri the first big town enroute was a pleasure, thanks to Vajpayeeji's vision (no politics)!! All along the route it was interesting to see the very many modes people were taking to reach their destinations in time for the festivity. There were people on the roof of buses, groups of bikers, people in lorries. And the most hearting sight; a youngish boy (teenager) cycling along with three of his little siblings and a family walking it!! Anything to be with near and dear ones for the big day…

The fine roads got progressively bad.... Getting to Dharmapuri was a struggle because work was in progress. Half way in between there was a traffic snarl that seemed to go on and on and on...... We waited patiently for about half hour and even tried to sleep. It was then that we saw our Messiah in the form of a bus driver who led the way into an alternative route, we were quick to follow. This road meandered through a village with paddy fields on either side. It was a sight to behold. Even in the dead of the night Mother Nature in all her charm was glowing by the little moon light!!

Mettur was our next stopover. Seeing the mighty Cauvery and Stanley reservoir gave me goose flesh!! What a sight it was! In the still of the night the river looked like a woman’s long tresses!!!

As we drove through Mettur we could hear the sound of fire crackers going off all around us, signifying the onset of the D day. By the time we crossed Mettur we were too tired and could not muster enough energy to go on. So we pulled over to the side of the road and slept for about an hour. We rose with the rising sun and got on. The last lap was a good one with great roads again!!

I wish we could do this kind of thing more often.... Am I hearing someone say if wishes were horses.......?
